Betty was always “Auntie Betty” to my wife Lesley who predeceased her by just two months.
When Betty was orphaned in WW2 she was taken into the home of her uncle Phillip, his wife Jessie, who was my late wife’s widowed grandmother, and her married daughter Ruth, my mother in-law, living there while her husband was serving abroad. From then on Betty, and her step -cousin Ruth became the closet of friends and Betty a loving and much loved member of the family, and as close as any blood relative, a closeness willingly extended to Lesley and me and our children. I feel a duty to those who passed on before Betty to say on their behalf what they themselves are now unable to express and that is that Betty was a most loving, much loved, generous, kind, and amusing relation who we all cherished and felt privileged to call “Auntie”.

Betty came to live with us on 1st April 2018, I remember this day well. She spent over 6 happy years with us, we loved her and will miss her very much. On a personal note, I enjoyed my chats and time spent with Betty, she always asked me about my family and had some fascinating stories to tell about her childhood, her working life and family. Betty, you leave a big hole in our Linden family.
